Output resolution was relevant 8 years ago. The 360 supported composite leads and one of the VGA standards. TVs and monitors didn't necessarily support every format while HD was in it's infancy, so there was some potential for compatibility problems.
Fast-forward to today, the consoles exclusively use HDMI and I challenge any one of the drooling fanboys in this thread to find an HDMI enabled TV that does not support one of the output options available from the consol...
Kirby is spot on, this is despicable. Microsoft should be ashamed after putting 1080p output on the back of the 360 box while Sony only put 720p on the PS3 box.
Unless of course the 360 could output a 1080p image while the PS3 was limited to 720p. I suppose there is a slim chance that is the case, if the 360 had a pretty good upscaler but the PS3's upscaler was more limited and could only scale an image vertically.
