Companies can innovate while not trying to reinvent the wheel. Nintendo goes after dramatic hardware changes that negate the standard. The Wii and WIi-U are dead. People prefer the biggest innovation to be within the games themselves (with a standard control interface as a base) and to be introduced at a steady pace.

It's sad and concerning that Nintendo seemingly comes off like they need to have a gimmick with each console. They are very good at software. People simply want a competent console with good software and a practical controller.
They would be crazy to release Tomb Raider at the same time as Fallout.
I like both.
