Another tough question.
Shadow of the Colossus, Last of Us are the games I would advise everybody (including non-gamers) to play.
However my all-time favourite was the (as of now) pinnacle of the soulsborne franchise: Bloodborne.
Loved it even though I hated myself for it.
Final Fantasy IX being the first Final Fantasy game I could play through on my own!
or Crazy Taxi or Phantasy Star Online (in offline) on the Dreamcast.
But I was hooked since touching my first games at around 1996 :|
Played it years after the original release date and all the controversy and flame war I was caught up in then. I really wanted to give it a chance, I really wanted to like it, but it made me do sg. I've never done before - watched the rest of the story on youtube after I completely lost my interest in the great fields.. Final Fantasy XIII was such a let-down - I didn't try the following two episodes
