Because when you are playing the game, you are the one making the decisions and controlling where you go. Anything can be unexpected. Horror movies are starting to become boring cliches.
Playing as another character doesn't make you, as a person, want to be that character in a real life situation. More people have attempted to re-enact movie stunts and scenes than they have for video games, granted that in rare instances like the batman movie that happened, ended up being violent.
I doubt anyone in their right mind would say "Gee, I just feel like shooting a bunch of people today." after playing or watching a movie.

Lol aren't people forgetting about Manhunt and GTA, along with tons of films that depict violence just as bad or worse than this? People are such hypocrites when it comes to gaming. You never see anyone talking about how a film made them do something bad. It's always the video game's fault.

The reviews are actually not that mixed. I've seen the majority of sites giving it 4/5 - 9/10. I've seen a 2/5 and the infamous IGN score, but not enough to turn me away from the game. It has stellar reviews for the most part and it deserves them.

76 is a very solid score. Bungie is actually tweaking the game every week and adding things to it. 343 studios was and I think still is doing the same thing for Halo 4 on the 360. They've added more game types and strike challenges for players. Vault of Glass is an amazing experience. Feels like a whole new game type on it's own.
No excuses for reviewers. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are hard as hell and have stellar reviews. And let's not forget the low score that IGN gave Alien Isolation becasue the game was "too hard."

i learned most of my vocabulary and how to spell, even memory and hand-eye coordination skills from playing video games like FFVIII and Legend of Dragoon. People always tell me to read a book but I would always just play a good old school RPG whenever I wanted to have a nice story to read. Chrono Trigger was probably one of my favourites.
