I doubt they were trying to make any kind of statement. The dates probably just fit where they wanted them to in the timeline, and the PS has been around for a lot longer and might be more well known to their audience.

Personally, the whole console-wars and graphic comparison deal is getting irritating. But I can see where it has merit. If a gamer wants to compare screen captures to see if one game is more sparkly than another, have at it. Games of old look like grainy pixels because they only had grainy pixels to work with; it wasn't a design decision. I'm not big on the whole graphics discussion, frankly because I don't really care, but Vanquish certainly feels great. At least in the demo.
Most of the time the guys at Gamestop just stare at me as though I'm going to steal a bunch of stuff right in front of them. Conversation with them doesn't seem that appealing.
