I didn't think the new ones were so bad. The old women's voices just sounded like little girls and now they sound like women. Maybe that's the issue.

Tons of newer games allow the player to select a character of appropriate sex, even if they tend to stick with the male in advertising. Clearly developers are starting to realize that women are a segment of their audience.

All the graphics in the world can't make a lousy game good. Don't get me wrong, I love a game that looks great, but I'd rather play a great game that looks OK.
I nearly passed just because of Giant RPG fatigue, and that's still kinda true for me, but the overall experience is really well done.
It's almost one of those games that you should play just because they got so many things right.
