He's revered as he is credited with coming up with Populous, Powermonger, Syndicate, Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper & Black & White. All good games in there day, unfortunately, he hasn't been able to continue this trend. A new Black & White with optional Kinect would do for me to restore the faith.

Yeh, HDMI 1.4 only added the ability to stream twin 1080p signals for top notch high res 3D. Using twin buffer 720p, HDMI 1.2 will be fine with a necessary firmware update.

Personally I don't like the suggestion that MS may be using Fusion II for the next generation. This really will give Sony an opportunity to capture all the hardcore market which contrary to what fanboys imply, will not be good for gamers. A singular market benefits noone. It will be intereseting to see Sony's direction since cell is all but dead and buried since IBM ditched it (most new supercomputers use latest generation Opterons). To be fair, it's IBM who should be gloating. Th...

You mean a bit like your comment on the MS abandonment of its userbase? More down to NVidia's tactics that soured the relationship. Timeframe is not as important as you make out. The exhorbitant cost of a new generation makes the length of that generation little more than milking a cash cow. Something Sony excel at and something the other 2 could learn from. Either way a generation is to be a differing timeframe for all 3 and will continue to be. Fanboyism is just plain daft, I'll enj...

Hmm fanboys should really put things into perspective-

PS2 Lifetime - 152.6 million
PS3 Current - 47.9 million

XBox Lifetime - 24 million
360 Current - 50 million

Gamecube Lifetime - 21.74 million
Wii Current - 84.6 million

Which companies fanboyz should be gloating?

Oh and PSP (powerful but evolutionary) 70.7 million
DS (underpowered but revolutionary) 144.6 million

Strange site when someone is factually correct and gets more disagrees. Toshiba bought 60% of the cell production market, IBM have dropped the cell, even an I3 is significantly more powerful than the cell, it was designed as a multi processor CPU for mainframes, IBM had their heads screwed on and made a killing from Sony & MS. They are the real winners.

This is why I rarely comment on this site. Too many narrow minded fanboys. Why anyone would sing the praises of MS or Sony I don't know. They don't give a hoot about owners, just dollars. Every generation the respective tech levels change. Dreamcast was still the most fun I've ever had on a console and no SPU's or triple core in sight. Just playable games and top shoot em ups.

All this silly talk of which is better, just enjoy the games & stop b*tchin. FYI, IBM are the true winners, flogging an end of line, overheated chip to MS & an experimental heterogeneous multiprocessor to Sony which is also now dropped by IBM. Neither processor is out of this world. That's why they've both been long ditched. Devs from both camps spout forth with their technical prowess & owners lap it up. I worked for IBM for 4 years & they spout aplenty on the next bi...

At what point in the evolution of gaming did the gamers matter? Was it the 360 V PS3 or maybe the Xbox V PS2 or could it have been PS1 V Saturn, before that, there was SNES V Megadrive or NES V Master System or Atari V Amiga or C64 V Spectrum or Colecovision V Atari VCS (wasn't Smurfs a great game). The gamers have never been paramount nor will they ever will be. A business has one interest only, to make money, Bill Gates is only 3rd richest man BTW. All this fanboyism that exists must have t...

Since noone else wishes to comment, i am forced to reply to my own post. Is Fable 2 less interesting than FF going multiplatform? What a sad inditement of the gaming community that conflict of 2 opposing formats generates all the comments and interest. I'd love a PS3 to go with my 360. Also, I'd love a Wii for the kids. Why harbour such resentment to other formats? Maybe I shouldn't drink so much Jack & coke so as to stop waffling.

My 5 year old daughter loved the 1st so this is a purchase. Hugely underrated franchise. Not enough games for the younger generation. My kids love all the naff games that were slated in reviews. The ones that receive good reviews such as Kung Fu Panda are too difficult for the really young uns. The purchasing power of parents is a forced to be reckoned with.

Thank you for your well thought out and researched comment. It is a shame however that you will be too busy shouting about how great the PS3 is to actually purchase the games you mention and enjoy yourself. Your list shows how good some of the upcoming PS3 titles are so quit trying to prove how your PS3 is an extension of your manhood and start playing.

Such harsh words. Why not just buy the game for the system you own and enjoy it for what it is. Talk of boycotting developers and publishers because of multiplatform releases leaves me perplexed. You love Sony (or Microsoft for that matter) more than you do gaming?

This man is a visionary in the world of creative games. For this he should be applauded. His track record is proven. Fable 1 was still a good game just not everything he envisioned or promised. The technology holds him back, certainly not his ideas. I will certainly be purchasing this game as I did Populous many moons ago. Immersive gaming at its best!!

Why do people give Grown Folks Talk disagrees for correctly pointing out that VGA also upscales? The main difference between VGA and HDMI is one of calibration due to analogue signal. Given the effort, VGA looks every bit as good as HDMI. HDMI is hardly an outstanding new format. It is gimped by combining audio and video and was brought in more to do with HDCP than some amazing new quality.

As far as I was aware it was a combination of the GPU AND CPU that causes the RROD. IBMs triple core is the hottest darn processor out there. As for using a Quad Extreme, yes I agree, too expensive. The P3 in the original XBox cannot be the sole attribute for no profit. They were stitched up by NVidia on pricing which was more a factor in the low profit margin.
Why would I not like the new XBox to use Cell? Sorry, I don't have affinity to MS as you imply or Sony for that matter. I woul...

Hehe PS3 emulation is a looooong way off. How long did it take to emulate the Amiga with its custom chips? Which coincidentally did a fine job of emulating the Mac. Same author I believe, maybe you could ask him to reverse engineer the cell.

As usual, the consoles at this stage of their life cycle are way behind the PC in terms of power. 2010 seems are a fair aim. An Intel based quad core would be nice, anybody who thinks a single cell processor could compete is living in a dreamworld. Time to move on and up.
IBM triple core was end of line anyway and way too hot. No RROD problem using Intel or AMD for that matter.

Civ. Rev. is one mighty fine game and is a worthy purchase for PS3/360 owners alike. Top release. Already given 30+ hours to it. Lacks the depth of PC versions but all the better for it in console land with the restrictive controllers.

These threads are like a twisted game of chinese whispers. GeoW vs Resistance, pre-emptive 10 scores, triple A this that and the other. So many psychics, blimey if you all put your supernatural minds together you could achieve world peace. Back on subject, games are on the verge of usurping movies as a source of entertainment revenue. Surely this will be reflected in development cost which will continue to rise as does production value.
