It was the right choice, for them, because it was the easy way to make money with very little risk. No genre / platform conflicts. Slap the name on a generic FPS base and call it good.

Potato sack deal, pure head-up-the-*** nonsense on the part of the complainers. You can't really ***** about something that is/was entirely voluntary. Nobody had to buy that incredibly cheap bundle of quality indies, or play the games if they had them already. We all knew the release date and Valve stuck by their word about an early release time. Nobody got stiffed and we played early. Win-win from every angle. In some cases it seemed like people were replacing the simple rules of the off...

Blizzard has usually been responsive to its community. If they don't leave the game open to modding or trainers like they did with D2 I'd be surprised. Then again they've gotten a lot more strict with Bnet

Doesn't seem like a big stretch to have a few typical modes; teams, survival, boss mode, etc.

Could also be the violence (ie blood). Other cultures react to it like the US does to nudity.
