this gen of consoles is over, long over, it ended for most hardcore gamers in 2007 or 2008. the only current gen is pc, 720p, 640p, 600p, 576p, 540p,480p those are console resolutions, pc starts for most at 1050p minimum, most are at 1080p, 1200p, 1600p or more when running eyefinity.

it will surpass the ps3, it's not even out yet, look at ps3 launch titles to compare it and this thing shits on them, do not compare it with games from 2009, 3.5 years into the dev cycle, the ps3 and 360 are just that old, my iphone has games that look better than 90% of console games, i dont know why everyone is suprised, read up on moore's law, this is what tech does, it continually evolves and improves, the ps3 is ANCIENT by tech standards.
ummm...you know 96.7% of all console(sony and microsoft)games come to the pc, i'nm playing darksiders right now in 1920x1200p with forced 32x sli anti aliasing and 16af and it literally SHITS on what it looked like on console

it's because pc gamers have choice, console gamers do not
we have millions of hours of free mods, free maps, total conversions, dedicated servers, pixel perfect hd quality rendering, and we expect all of this
so when some mediocre single player game with no mod tools and garbage multi comes along asking $60, we do not buy it, we play bfbc2 on dedicated servers in dx11 instead and wait till it drops to $20

pc gaming never declines, it constantly grows, unlike console that for the first year they are out, have no one playing them except the early adapter(people like me with money that do not give a shit about $600) then the next 3 years they grow, then people move back to pc untill all thats left playing the consoles are poor people and little kids, then boom, new consoles come out, cycle repeats ad nauseum.

Both consoles have been "maxed" since day one!
Now it is up to devs to get creative in their programming to work around the limitations of the consoles, that's why games still continue to impress, it's called working with what you got.
