One of the things I truly want from NextBox and next Gen PS, I would love to buy one console unit and keep it that way until the console generation after that.
I don't want to buy an Xbox or a PS that would break after a couple of years and getting a replacement. It is just Outrageous!
My own speculation about these breakdowns either:
A) Defective by design itself
OR
B) They just want to have more console sales <...
Agreed with the compatibility! I wouldn't be surprised to see PS4 having compatibility with PS3 2 and one though. Since they done it with PS2 and PS3 (60GB models)

UPDATE: Pay no attention to my comment, I wasn't aware of Vita's release in Japan.
I thought it will be out on Feb 2012 globally.

The Vita comes out in Feb 2012, Kotaku... I don't think that is final PS Vita build.
But now that you pointed it out, Sony is gonna work to resolve these issues before its released I'm assuming.

I agree as well, I don't know if this is a solid reason but I think 2012 is way too early for next-gen of gaming generally.
We still have games to come on our PS3s 360s Wiis and PCs in the current gen. So for that reason I personally think, nope not gonna happen in 2012 at least.
I think later 2013 or 2014 would be reasonable for the coming of next-gen-gaming.
I must say Sega really nailed it with this Sonic Generations! I loved it! The only 2 flaws I PERSONALLY saw with the game are:
A) Too short
B) Voice of Sonic changed
I was playing Sonic Unleashed not too long ago and thought "Man, I am going to miss that iconic voice! :("
Or it maybe a prequel game rather than a sequel or a spin off story and I still wouldn't be surprised if it would be a sequel to MGS4 which I agree, I highly doubt as it was the big series finale.

I agree that problems would happen sooner or later but I am pretty sure that huge companies such as Sony and Microsoft CAN produce hardware that would keep! (Not taking costs of development into account)
I still have my PS1 and PS2 and still working. I do understand that consoles are getting sophisticated gen by gen and it gets harder to maintain so on and so forth.
