I agree, I'm in the beta too, and it's really poor.
Nothing going for it, although the customisation is good and has a lot of detail, the gameplay doesn't follow it. It just sucks

I think the wood would circulate the heat back into the console, because the heat wouldn't be able to escape anywhere, so it'll just get reflected back where it came from

You can tell the game has been dumbed down big time from the original Splinter Cells, which is sad..
