The UK is currently experiencing a bit of a fatuation with all things green, it's all over the media recently since the politicians have started on it. I think Nintendo could do pretty well (as if they aren't already!) by making this sort of information widely known. It's certainly a lot more of an issue than it used to be, especially with the large power supplies on the 360s (and PS3s? - I don't have one so I can't check!) being very noticeable.
Although this isn't something t...
"Which means buying XBL Premium online makes the power bill for the PS3 to go on par with that."
Not quite. An XBL gold account costs £39.99 here in the UK. Add £24 to that (though I don't know where you got that figure from, it certainly wasn't in the article) and you get £64, a third more than the £48 cost of running the PS3.
the man actually has some legitimate concerns. Marketing mature video games to children isn't good, and certainly retailers (note: RETAILERS, not the devs themselves) are at fault if they sell mature games to minors. Why the US can't follow the UK and make it illegal for a shop to sell a 17+ game to under-17s, I don't know. But the man makes his points in such a ridiculous media-whoring way with absolutely stupid lawsuits like this one. I am all for a debate on violent video games and even so...
the result was never in doubt, to be honest :)
As for the Sony performance at GDC, I think it was good. Certainly not around £500 worth of good, especially given that I already own a 360, but I must say I was VERY impressed with the LittleBigPlanet tech demo when I finally got around to watching it. Along with a brilliant Fable 2 demo, it surely proves that UK developers kick some serious ass :D
I can see where the author is coming from, but I still find that a good, well written and intelligent review of a game (wherever I may find it) will definitely influence my opinion one way or another.
To me, trailers and screenshots are little more than eye-candy in the vast majority of cases, I'm much more concerned with how a game plays than how it looks, and you can really only get a feel for that from someone who has actually played it. Pre-release media almost always has ...
A thought provoking article. I remember the whole reason I got so into Halo was going round to my friend's house and playing the co-op campaign and thinking "Wow, I must own this game... it's on Xbox? Suppose I'd better get one of them too then!". You'd think with hi-def and TVs getting ever larger, split screen would work better than in the past. And surely if you can do co-op over Xbox Live, it wouldn't be that hard to incorporate split screen offline too?
Ah well, ...
Average gamers will only buy one, perhaps at most two games with a new console, GAME are just doing what all retailers do and trying to make money. They did it with the 360 launch too, just thank your lucky stars that one of the bundles doesn't include King Kong!
My advice? Just wait. Get your PS3 6 months or so down the line like I did with my 360. Most of the initial problems should be ironed out and you'll be able to buy the games you want, when you want. Failing that, just ...
"SimmoUK you don't own a 360." - Because of course, you'd know better than he would?
http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/...
Looks like he plays on this non-existant 360 quite a bit, to me. Maybe you shouldn't catagorise people so quickly in future. And maybe you could tell me what "optimalized" means, because the dictionary sure as hell can't! And while...
It sounds like you might be a bit of an exception, do you think that would be fair comment? I don't know, maybe most PS3 owners do buy them as much for the media capability as for the gaming. How much does the non-video/photo/music content take up on your PS3 HHD? Enough so you think you'll run out of space even without all your media on there?
I'm also interested about what you think would be a fair price for this thing, it sounds like you have quite a bit of experience in the...
I'd be interested to know from those that own PS3s, do you actually feel you need more space right now? I know it's a semi-common complaint on the 360, but on mine I find that the only thing that takes up the space are the demos, of which I only have about 2 or 3 on my HDD at any one time. As for music/photos/videos, I just stream them from my PC (I presume you can do this with the PS3 too?), I don't feel the need to transfer them to my console.
I suppose what I'm asking is: is...
I think I count about 4 or 5 good intelligent posts that don't contain an insult, directed at poster or company.
CyberSentinel made a good point about considering the source of the information (always important when looking at statistics) and Arkham (his first post only) and bladestar (level-headed as usual) expanded on this by questioning the nature of the figures, i.e. games shipped or sold (as a side note, I'd also like to know if Sony are including downloaded games in this,...
He hasn't even won a video game case, that I know of. He's an attention seeker, pure and simple. Why doesn't he go after violent books, TV and film? It's because they are ingrained in culture, he'd be laughed down if he did. Video games (especially violent ones) are relatively new and an easy target because they're very visual and make a lot of money.
If there's one thing I think everyone on this site agrees about, it's Jack Thompson!
The difference between SoaP and the PS3 is that SoaP KNEW it was bad, which is kind of what made it good, in a wierd way. You had to "get it", which a lot of internet people did. Sony really don't know that the PS3 is bad, and it's nigh on impossible for the consumer to "get it", in every sense ;)
Atleast they can improve. Get your act together Sony, there are millions of gamers out there hanging on it.
"consumers look at price not name brand"
I think you forgot to add a word in there. SENSIBLE consumers look at price (vs quality) and not brand. Unfortunately, the market isn't made up of sensible consumers as is proven by the masses and masses who want a new Playstation just because it has the word Playstation written on the box. Underestimate the power of brand trust at your peril, just look no further than the iPod if you need an example, like Sythesean said above ...
"resistance looks 100 time better on the ps3"
100 time [sic] better than what, exactly?
I had my doubts about whether the game could live up to all the hype, so much so that I almost didn't buy it. What a mistake that would have been!! Congrats to Cliffy B and everyone at Epic on a job thoroughly well done!!
Anyone has to admit, there are SOME similarities, however I would say there are more differences. Many (such as the small headstart and the 3rd party support) have already been commented on, but I would say the biggest difference would be that the Dreamcast was ahead of its time, especially with its online package (I had a Dreamcast but no broadband). Now I have broadband and can get a heck of a lot more out of my Xbox 360. It's the proliferation of broadband that is the big issue, as online ...
"PlayStation 3 is the console for those that value choice"
Because of course, you can choose not to have that expensive Blu-Ray technology in your PS3. Can't you?
I would have predicted a win for Sony this generation with a slightly reduced market share, but no one can deny that Merrill Lynch is not just some wild guessing website out for a few hits, they are seriously well respected company of analysts for a reason, the reason being that they get things right more often than not.
The big news here is not what they've predicted, it's that they've predicted it (if you see what I mean). Investors will be much less likely to pour money into...
Seriously, what sort of person is Jack Thompson? The first thoughts that crossed my mind when I heard about the shootings were ones of sympathy for the victims and revulsion at the acts of the killer. The first thought that went through Jack's mind was obviously "Woopee, another gun related tragedy!!". The speed with which he got his ugly mug back on TV to hog the spotlight on this and try and twist it to aid his crusade against video games is just ridiculous, it's an insult to thos...
