I notice that the Driving force GT do not have a clutch, and the shift doesn't go 1,2,3... instead it goes UP and DOWN just like the ones you usually play in the arcade. If you are going for a more realistic feel then get the more expensive choice G25/G27 that has those features covered.(Correct me if I'm wrong)
Anyway I'm not sure whether GT5 allow with such controls, and if you are playing with AUTO I don't see any point of getting expensive wheels either.
