There wasn't an Xbox console to compete with the PS1, and Sony had already sold over 10 million consoles BEFORE Microsoft or Nintendo had even released their consoles. So that's kinda winning by default. And reading some of these obvious fangirl comments on this website made my IQ drop drastically.

At the rate the WII U is selling, it's not likely to catch up to the PS4 or XB1 when they both come out. The PS3 was 200 bucks more than the 360, and guess what? People still bought it. Not at the rapid pace Sony thought people would, but it still sold. And Sony got plenty of bad press too.
