I mention it once in the review I believe. If you are an action game of any kind, you'll be compared to Devil May Cry 3 in some shape or form by me. If the combat does not reach the standard set by a game that came out 17 years ago, I'm going to be cross with it either way. I want to be able to use all my abilities in combat and don't play Russian roulette every time I press the block button.
If these battles operate on the same level as that cutscene at the end of Heavensward, but playable.. oh my. I know Yoshida loves mecha but this would be next level.
The guy directing the combat happens to be responsible for two of my favorite action games of the 2010's. Dragons Dogma alone stands as one of the best action rpgs of the last decade. Just because the combat is fun. And I don't even need to get started on DMCV. And the story and design is by people who've been working on some of the best Final Fantasy games out there.
That and I'm happy that The Last Remnant gets this kinda revival. It deserved better.
There is always a chance! But most of the team behind XVI has also worked on FFIX, Tactics and XII. The team definitely has a certain style of game they want to make. Which I would mostly attribute to working with Yasumi Matsuno, after combing through heaps of interviews. Most of them cite him as a massive influence on them.
My friend! Square Enix has been making the Bravely Default games for exactly that reason.
Lowkey my Game of the Year.
