Just try dividing the sales of those games "per console" and you'll see how great they performed.

GTA4 was the last shot SONY had to takeover the world like the PS2 did.
The hardware boost was almost identical for both PS3 and 360 which is a failure for Sony considering that it is the BIGGEST franchize ever for Sony ( all GTA's sold WAY more than FF , MGS ETC ).
90% OF PS2 gamers were supposed to upgrade to ps3 (at least according to the fanboys on this site who speak like they know what there talking about ) but it looks like its 50/50.
If they didnt upgrade for GTA4...

360 = 19 MILLION
ps3 = 13 MILLION
PS3 has to outsell the 360 by 3 million a year to catch up ( not talking about passing only catching up ) which is quite alot considering thea gap is only 100 000 to 200 000 units a month at the moment (that equals at the best 2 million a year beter than 360 ) and the 360 still hasnt dropped the price in USA ( biggest market in the world and biggest market for 360 )

thats EXACTLY the same things Sony fanboys were saying at the begining of the year. Now look , the 360's lineup is more than on par if not superior to the ps3's lineup. MSFT just do thing differantly : only announce and confirm if coming out this year.
Im not worried a single second for 2009 : Bioshock 2 , new Dead Rising , Forza 3 , Dead or Alive 5 , Mass Effect 2 , Project Offset, Tales of Vesperia etc etc.
And they havnt announced anything yet ! Unlike Sony ( ...
