With the article's logic the gameboy and the DS would have been failures too.
The gameboy was killing its rivals when it was in black and white. The DS was called a gimmick when it came out and now it is killing the PSP in sales.

I would just like to preface this post by saying that i am not a fanboy (i own a ps2, a wii, and a 360).
Think about every person you know who has a PS2. In my case i probably know 20 people who own one, and out of those 20 people i would consider maybe 5 of them hard core gamers. Now it's the 15 people who made the PS2 successful. They are your casual gamers, the people who own a system and maybe have 5 games for it, games like Karaoke Revolution and Madden.
