It will still be defended from every corner no matter how bad a game is and this is why devs are getting lazier and lazier. I know I will get hate for this but Microsoft has infected every corner of the entertainment arena and people love them for it.

I really dont think IW cares. I bet they are not doing another COD and will pursue another venture again using the same Game Engine but adding further wrap around "dlc" as the maps.
People will suck it up thinking its something fresh and new.
No advances with the Game Engine from COD4 to MW2 so why would their next game be any different when the love MS XBOX so much.

Perfect timing with MW2 launch. The dilema is if they would rebuy a XBOX or a PS3, however it does seem like IW/Activision/MS have some sort of conspiracy going on here.

They had decent statistics from the COD4 MP Usage so I dont buy into all these excuses. Activision now owns DemonWare I think.
