It's a logical answer. How would anyone know if it sold better or worse because of play anywhere? Once a few more games release then you may start to see a pattern, but until then his answer is completely valid.
Unless Microsoft send an email to every person who purchased the games, asking if play anywhere was the deciding factor, then we may never know if it has an effect on game sales.
