Gamefreak has already confirmed the graphics in the trailer are not final.
They also confirmed the game will push the 3DS to its maximum. You have to remember this game is still well in the development stage. By release it should be the highest graphical game on the 3DS and if not I'l be disappointed, but will still buy it for the storyline of course.
A Chespin Evolution that is identical to this but more 'cartoony' was released on Deviant art last night only 2 hours after the trailer. and i mean the spike pattern is identical, also none of these are in Sugimori's art style.
It's a little hard to implement this on a game with turn based multiplayer. Personally I don't think that's right anyway...
