To me it's not the player that people are most concerned about, it's the cost of new releases. I simply refuse to pay in upwards of 25 dollars and sometimes 30 to buy a movie. I'd assume buy the DVD.
Once the prices of BD discs comes down to under 20.00 more people will jump onboard. But since Sony is controlling all aspects of the format, I won't be holding my breath for the price to come down.

I don't really understand your theory on how you can ignore the sells already made by the xbox-three-sixty. Although, it's a know fact that the 360 has not penetrated the Japan (PS3s Home Market) market very much. Going strictly with the numbers, to date the 360 has sold 5,337,684 in Europe while the PS3 has sold 3,654,894 in Europe. That would be +1,682,790...
We already know that the 360 doesn't do well in Japan, but fifa on the PS3 sold 1.7k and 360 1.2k.

This is what I feel the hardcore (or moronic) PS3& 360 fanboy does. Please note I am speaking of a small minority of fanboys vs the populus.
