I'm still up in the air about Anthem, as are a lot of gamers. It'll be interesting to see how those preorders turn into purchases once the game is available for everyone.
I wonder if the devs are going to scramble to adjust the encounters or if they're already getting balanced in the day one patch.

I agree. The controllers are so similar that it's not like you'll have much advantage over one platform. The other reasons for disabling cross play are just as silly.
I really hope they're back next year with the launch lineup for their next console. Having one of the big three miss this year is going to hurt (but at least it'll be easier to cover everything!)
