My only fear is that they put so much effort into making the game as big as possible that they forgot to actually make it fun to play!

I think it depends on which DLC pack we're talking about. When the DLC is good, like Rockstar's GTA IV expansions or The Last Of Us' Left Behind, no one complains, and with good reason. But when the extra content is just there to milk the consumers dry and doesn't provide anything of interest, such as Call of Duty's absurdly priced map packs, it's a whole different thing.
