any idea how big the world will be? I quit watching after they showed the mounts, but it looks way better than previous versions.

I don't know much about this tech, but in theory I suspect this would be an awesome alternative to 4k res games and expensive TV's or monitors. The screen size would be much smaller, but the user wouldn't notice because the way the screen is designed, and I suspect they could really make a crazy awesome peripheral to showcase some awesome games.

You know what that show was? Besides awkward and at times a ding dong measuring contest? It was done so slick 99% of you guys wouldn't obviously get it. They did the exact same thing to teenage girls when the Twilight films came out. Twilight was something like a $40M commercial for Volvo to sell that SUV to teenage girls' mom's.

*Spoiler*
That Mercedes was the huge surprise from Sony. What you all just watched was a 3 hour commercial for Gran Turisomo 6. ...

Man, I've met with Naughty Dog a couple times to work for them a few years ago and one thing I noticed right away, there is no ego there. Everyone helps everyone else. Also I didn't see any weak links. Every artist or programmer always push the envelope forward. It seems like they're growing even faster now though. The danger I foresee is they get too big to manage their vision. Maybe they'll split up into 3 teams now, because too much creativity can lead to no clear vision an...

I remember a few years ago they were hiring character artists to create 1 million polygon characters for next gen. In comparison, Drake was only 30k in Uncharted 1 and 80k in Uncharted 2.

Jak and Daxter is Def not coming next. Neil Duckerman said on Reddit they tried to remake it and failed miserably, so they went in a different direction.

Their next game based on a background art piece I saw in a video from I think an IGN or Gameinformer video a couple months ago looked like it was actually older like 1600's or 1800's guy in a long coat with kinda longer hair like mullet long with a goatee. To me it seemed like a prequel almost to the Uncharted Series.

if the PS4 doubled as a 4k blu ray player I'd def get it.

To some extent I agree with you, but in some ways I can see what he means. The ps3 took devs on average 12-18 months to program the game to get the best bits out of it. Now according to Mark Cerny that process only takes 2-3 months for the same efforts. Not having to bang their heads against the wall to make stuff work means they can just create. Or at the very least, iterate much more often to improve the tech with nominal down time.

What the average consumer doesn't realize about marketing is these things are planned way in advance. If you remember last yr a leaked trailer for 38 studios mmo came out a yr before the game launched and the company went bankrupt weeks later. That leaked trailer was created months in advance. The closer to launch visuals and polish increase on a daily basis. Even some of my game dev collegues saw the trailer and were quick to judge, when at least one of them lost his last job when the sa...

Sorry didn't have time to read everyone's comment, but the issue this. A new game at retail is $60, but the developer at best case scenerio makes $16-$32 total depending on a lot of factors. Now places like gamestop can sell the game at $60 make $12 profit, then continue to make 100% profit each time they sell tbe exact same game that John buys and then trades in, and Sam continues tbe cycle. Is it fair places like gamestop potentiality make $500-$1, 000+ off the same game each year? ...

I'm ok with games that are designed for multiplayer, just like I'm ok with single player games. I think the developer needs to make that absolutely clear before I buy the game if they're not taking the other one seriously, because honestly most games I play for the story and don't like playing online with trash talking folks and things that take away from my experience. Not to mention it bores me to play the same levels or maps over and over a thousand times. To each their ow...

actually, I just watched the presentation and sure enough someone really asked for 1000X the power of Ps3 if it was possible haha.

4708d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I believe there was a error in translation of that article. I just saw Mark Cerny a few weeks ago live say they were targeting 10X the power of PS3 and in some cases they did, and some cases they got 16X more out of the new system.

Why can't publishers just take a hit and sell their game for ~40% off after like the first yr online and have periodic sales online for 10-25% off? They would have 100% of the profits online and have physical copy sales. As it is now, a publisher only gets like $36 or so on a new game on the first sale only. This way if there's another venue to purchase games at say $40 new online they're still making a profit, and its cheaper for the user, and used games could still have their ph...
