As mentioned in the article, it will simply cost too much money, time, and effort to remake a game that is as intricate as FFVII.
I'd love to see it remade with new graphics, textures, and what-not, but it would have to be EXACTLY as the original was. Leave out one piece of dialogue, one dungeon, cutscene, and die-hard fans will be up in arms. Sure they'll be disappointed if SE doesn't remake it, but they'll get over it, just like they did when the trailer...
All these games have been the same to me, albeit different bells and whistles, which is probably why I never got into the franchise in the first place.
