it depends on the game, for example on sports champions you definitely have to be 8ft away, but on start the party it likes you to be much closer(as it only needs to track the upper body)

one question have you played on table tennis on sports champions yet, as soon as you play on that it will hit you how good move is

if you stay in the same session in sports champions no recalibration required as long you are not changing players, if you quit out to change your mini-game (or you want to change players) then yes recalibration is required but is very fast and not painful at all..
wow I am so spoil today got my move and my sports champions and already loving it, it's very precise and very unforgiving to those who presume it's a wii haha, played with my nephew and he tried to use it like a wiimote and failed so bad, once i explained you had to play table tennis like you would in real life he was kicking my arse, we got lots of rallies in and ai get a trophy for it.. yaya
