A main series Pokemon game comes out nearly every year. This is not unusual, especially since the game is a remake. Having all that pre-existing content expedites the process a lot, just like it did with HeartGold and SoulSilver, and FireRed and LeafGreen before them.
After the flop that was the first 3DS PMD game, I think this one can only go up from there.
