I think it's fair to say that people are being optimistic because they don't want another broken game. If developers see the optimisim they're more likely to put more effort into the project than if we're all saying, "oh another Assassin's Creed! Bet it's a steaming pile of Triceratops dung, not that I'm going to play it", give them a chance mate.
