That patch was in the cooking for a couple weeks if not more.

Usually, they send the game up for shipment a few weeks before it's release, and after that, they start fixing bugs and patching up the game up to release, and that's where the day one patch comes into play.

They've only now started to gather up criticism, so it can take some time to fix those issues.

Going with this artstyle for Zelda was a good decision, having in mind that the console is rather lacking in the hardware department, the studio did accomplish some good with it.

Man, I know that bug/glitch fixing is a pain in the as*, but man, they should just have delayed the game and fix them. This a multi-million dollar project that relies heavy on public opinion. A game in this state should never be released.

I can only image what would have happen if we'd release a buggy software to one of our clients...
