I bought the $399 Xbox 360 Reach bundle at midnight last night, despite the fact that I know Microsoft are coming out with new and improved controllers in two months. When I got home, I opened the box to find that these awesome-looking controllers don't even come with rechargeable battery packs, nor does the bundle come with an HDMI cable (just composite, which NOBODY IN THE UNIVERSE uses anymore).

The difference here is that with Expansion Pak games on the N64, the requirement for the accessory was plastered right on the front of the box. Microsoft didn't mention this limitation to anybody, nor is it listed in plain view for potential customers.
The professional reviewers out there likely aren't using a 4GB Xbox, so I don't hold it against them that this didn't factor into reviews — I doubt any of them encountered this issue during their time with the game. The problem here is a lack of documentation on Microsoft's part. Had people known about this before Reach came out things would be a lot different, I'm sure.
Some of those names are preeeettty obscure, and the fact that it's an "unverified source" makes me very wary.
Microsoft are the new Nintendo when it comes to Nickel-And-Dime tactics. Disgusting.
The strangest part, to me, is that in every case I've seen it's been the same amount. Always $125.
