As a PlayStation owner I ask least can applaud Microsoft for actually doing something. Sony's dripfeeding gets so bloody annoying and it makes me lose interest.

Not for me. Sure you'll spend more on Sony's exclusives but if you wait a while they can be bought quite cheap in sales. The wait isn't even that big of a problem since there is a steady supply of titles.
Also, games that aren't exclusive on Xbox will leave the service. You're not building a catalogue.
It does feel like karma after taking so many studio's out of multiplatform and claiming that it's good for the gamer.
