Advertising Is expensive, usually more than the actual development is, so if a platform holder comes in and covers some of the cost (how much probably depends on how much stuff they get cut from the other versions), it's hard to say no, sucks for consumers, but makes a lot of sense for the publishers.
Apparently they ran into issues getting it to work, so have probably put it on hold for now, and are just giving PS Classic support to PS4.
I guess we can except 78,000 articles now declaring this is the most important thing ever and will kill the Xbox's last hope of catching up. Or is that only the case when it's for Xbox?
Anyway, nice feature, hopefully everything is cross-buy, I'll be pretty annoyed if Sony want me to pay again, when they have no problem with letting my PS3 purchase, get me a Vita and PSP version too.
Have both, play on both, but still wouldn't recommend both, get either or (which ever your friends have), as they are pretty much the same, with only a few worthwhile exclusives between them, and a few features the other doesn't.
Next year is looking bright for both though, that'll be the time to get the other.
*hides from the fanboys, who can't deal with the truth.
Because it's clearly damaged the brand, a bad deal isn't just about $$$ it makes straight away, it's also about how badly it affected it at making money in the future.
I also doubt MS paid them for weak sales of the Xbox versions, so it probably negatively impacted Square's wallet short term too.
We know they at least planned a trilogy, so I think they'll take the hit and have one final crack at it, if it sells less than TR 2013. I just hope Square know it was them that screwed up, not CD.

Sorry I don't happily accept a company making others pay for something they allow you to do at no extra charge on all their other platforms that support it.
@Death
Because it's a hell of a lot more complicated and awkward to work with, than the 360's chip was. It would take a vastly more powerful system to brute force it without some form of dedicated hardware to help. Why do you think otherwise? It killing PS Now just gives Sony even more reasons to not waste their time and money on trying.
They most likely won't, it'd be more work and cost Sony more money to add PS1 and PS2 emulation through the...
Most, if not all PS Classic games are cross-buy with PS3, PSP and Vita, It'll be bs if they make you buy them again, just to play on PS4. I hope they don't, or if they do at least make it worth the re-purchase by adding stuff and improving them.
They only said PS3 backwards compatibility won't happen, and it's obvious why, the PS4 isn't close to being powerful enough to emulate the Cell and if they somehow did get it to work,it'd kill PS Now, which Sony wouldn't won't.
PS Classic are on PS3, PSP and Vita, it works the same on all 3, I don't see why they'd change that on PS4, or use a service that's only available in a few places.
I wonder what TLoU has sold now, it's been bundled with almost every PS4 bundle since it released.
It was free for a limited time, as it was pretty much just a ad, they then charged for it.
@Pope
Except multiple GT games have had that level of success, granted racing games have fallen massively since then and only really GT and Mario Kart ever broke the 10 million mark regularly, but they did easily match Halo and Fallout in sales, hell Mario Kart Wii sold better than a few mainline Halo games combined.
Then Sony will just point at all the Uncharted bundles and tell them way.
Well 10 does start with a 1, so close enough I guess. I'm sure MS can spin it, to make it look like a 1.

Here babe ;)
Not necessarily, I think it's a lose lose all round, Square got an early pay check, but have damaged a great reboot with a stupid release date and unnecessary timed exclusivity deal.
MS blown who knows how much on something that didn't even make a dent in the sales "war", money which would be better spent on an actual exclusive.
PS and PC players have to wait for a ( by all accounts) great game, for no other reason than MS panicking and trying to counter Un...
It sold 56,000-63,000 (360 & XB1 combined) units, it's far from impressive, if anything it flopped hard.
This guy got me too, then murdered me. I went back later with a Fat Man and Nuked the bastard though, just as he jumped out.
I agree, and it's not like it's long to level up, I've done about 7 main quest missions (maybe even less) and I'm level 37, I have been discovering every location and clearing most out though.
The former most likely, From struck oil with the Souls type game, I doubt they'll walk away from it.
I wouldn't mind them applying those mechanics to different genres, changing them up a bit where needed, kinda like how they did with Bloodborne, but more, like Sci-fi or something.
