This may be an unpopular perspective, but life is pay-to-win. The expectation that devs and publishers should feel obligated to provide a compelling gaming experience indefinitely after the initial purchase doesn't really make sense. In order to provide incentive for a DLC purchase, there has to be an in game benefit. Most people will not pay for cosmetic options that add nothing to gameplay or character progression.

IMHO, it seems the main point of contention with this particular scandal originally was whether or not the debacle cast a shadow on gaming journalism as a whole, as if it were the last sacred bastion of forthright and honest reporting in all the world. How is it possible that adult gamers are so naive? I don't get it. Everybody in every industry networks and uses those personal associations to benefit professionally.

Did anyone actually read the article? I'd call it selective comprehension, except that almost everybody seems to be lacking that comprehension aspect. All of the author's points are valid, and he didn't say anything negative about Uncharted. The author just chose to contrast the shallow game-play components versus the narrative depth, and draw attention to the tools used to blend both into an entertaining gaming experience.

The reason that Sony is not dumping as much money into the PS4 is because the product very likely will not require it. Sony has been working on the R & D for cloud based services for some time now. I expect that cloud based services like Onlive will replace the idea of consoles as we know them.
