Chrono Trigger is one of the best (if not the best) rpg Square ever made, only Xenogears was clearly better. Chrono Cross was a very good game as well, but overall not up on par with CT.

iPhone isn't about casual gaming, it's about mobile/handheld gaming. DS is brilliant, but PSP was a failure, all Sony did was just a pocket sized PS2, that's not what I want from a handheld. most of the games on it are just downgraded PS2 ports.
and cell phones are a third handheld platform in Japan for like 6 years already.

The Last Remnant was a Square title.
and Tri-Ace made SO3, which was a AAA title. it was way better than FF10, let alone 12. VP2 Silmeria was awesome as well, just not mainstream.
and in the past Tri-Ace made SO2 which was one of the best rpgs ever, comparable to Square's Xenogears, Chrono Trigger and FF7.
