That happened to me, too, lost about 2 hours of progress.
Hard reset should allow you to manually save, but make sure when you're about to stop playing, quit to the main menu before turning it off
Always quit to the main menu youre done playing

Considering the size, it didn't take that long to install both games and the patch, maybe an hour.
