My main complaint about the possibility of used games going the way of the buffalo is that these companies shouldn't be able to tell me how I can buy a game. And if a console does come out that won't allow used games to be played, how can I borrow a game from a friend?
I had gold, and quit paying the ridiculous fees. I just switched what little online gaming I do over to the PS3.
I don't think the Wii U is going to do that much. They captured the casual crowd with the Wii, and they did it extremely well, but the casual crowd isn't going to run out to buy the next gen console. Not to mention that the price point is going to be higher than other Nintendo consoles, or I assume so, at least. You're buying a console and, basically, a tablet. I feel that Final Fantasy still has some good games left to get out there, if they can capture that feeling of past games.
