I think it will happen in time. While they're still actively selling and developing for 3DS, I don't see it happen. But after 3DS dies off...yeah, I'd fully expect them too as well.
There is just no reason to buy one. I have a 4K TV and I stil have no reason to buy one. The games are going to look the same (despite what MS says) outside of having slightly higher resolution, which most people don't find noticeable. MS really missed the mark with this one, they should have just made it an entirely new system.
Switch is great because it offers something X1 and PS4 simply can't, and it has (so far) great games. In regards to game quality, Switch has also had the best year.
2K's animations are worlds above Live, but I agree about the textures
