I believe there's a lot of nuance in this topic that's being ignored in order to construct a narrative to "blame" someone. Considering I'm not a Diablo fan I have no horse in this race but felt like giving out my two cents.

First off, the idea that the gamer has "too much influence over games" is baffling. While it's true that video games are a product and exist to make money, they're also products that are built on establishing a fan...

As someone who's always wanted to get into God of War, I am curious how this one is going to turn out with all the hype surrounding it. Need to borrow the previous games from a friend. This new direction has really piqued my interest in the series once more.

On topic, I'm glad to see that other games are attempting the "no cut" camera trick. First game I played that stuck to that method for most of its run time were both parts of MGSV. Barring a few cuts, ...

While this would normally be a point I could see from, as a Metal Gear fan, Metal Gear WAS Kojima's baby. He's one of THE go-to auteurs we have in this industry, so anything Metal Gear going forward will simply not be the same. It will either be a different beast entirely if they try something different, or a pale imitation of an existing game; and Survive seems to be a mixture of the two, and that doesn't seem like a good thing.

I'm all for being surprised,...

That's the eternal Catch 22 with amiibo.

On one hand, I like collecting the things cuz they're cheaper than most figures and are decent for their average $13 price tag. Even if they didn't have any NFC capabilities, I'd probably still have collected them as a fan. Then when they unlocked stuff across multiple games, great! A use for them.

On the other hand, this is the problem the concept always flirted with; content locked away behind a &...

It's an amazingly designed game for sure, but I'd be wary of saying "of al time" simply because it's absolutely too early to determine that. Seeing how much of an impact is needed
But as an open-world game? Absolutely.

This newest Zelda does that occasional Nintendo thing where they take a genre they aren't extremely familiar with or proficient in and it gives them a chance to reexamine the genre and/or series in question and they can dec...

Reviews are important in the sense that it's meant to give you a view into how a game is seen at the time it is presented, but they aren't the end-all-be-all of any title. It's all about context and people place too much stock on a number if you don't know the context behind a pro or con.

It also pays to look at a variety of scores as well from various outlets. It's okay to not agree with all of them, but it can be worth knowing the opinions of everyone ...

While I only have a PSP-3000 and never got a Vita due to lack of games and support to justify a buy, I do believe that a "Vita 2" wouldn't be a bad idea, as I do enjoy my 3DS simply because of its variety of games it ended up getting. This is knowing that I upgraded from my original 3DS to a New 3DS due to the boost in its still-aging architecture, but the games like Fire Emblem Echoes are still coming. With the enthusiasm for the Switch a bright sign, another powerful portable ...

While I love MK8 on Wii U and loved the DLC, I'll probably get Deluxe once more friends and family get it for their Switches. Not in a huge rush, but Mario Kart is a tough itch not to scratch eventually.

But what's with all the dislikes here? Especially for being excited for a game. I get that it's an enhanced repackaging, but re-releasing Wii U games makes as much sense as GameCube titles as far as I'm concerned; not as many people have played those two sys...

There's not much I can add to your excellent statement, because while of course visuals are important in a visual medium like video games, focusing only on visuals will not keep you timeless compared to gameplay.

I'm merely here voicing support for what should be common sense despite those insane disagrees. Preferring solid gameplay over graphics doesn't mean someone doesn't care about graphics. C'mon guys, it should be simple logic: amazing graphics doe...

Where is this line of thought coming from? Is it because it "looks" like the first game? It's called Splatoon 2 for a reason, presumably that it's a sequel and not a "Deluxe" port like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I'll ask anyways.

If it's simply being based solely on looks, then I kinda get that. At first glance, I thought it was an updated port as well, but that's the art style in this case. Looking at the gameplay for longer than a few...

On one hand, I understand the question on a purely objective level. Video game development can be super complicated and many times, especially for a huge production like this, it's actually amazing we get games made by hundreds of people that work as well as they do.

However, that doesn't negate or even excuse how some basic aspects should be implemented and working in every game; aspects like a decent walking animation and non-broken core aspects, such as the prese...

The amount of overblown knee-jerk reactions seem extremely short-sighted. I'm as surprised as anyone to hear a mainline Zelda has DLC in the form of an "Expansion Pass" and I'm cautiously optimistic.

To address things in as much of a level-headed manner as possible:

I've been reading "Nintendo does [practice that has negative connotations] and it's suddenly okay!" that ignores a few facts for the point of making a snark...

Seeing how Zelda is my favorite video game franchise, it's no surprise that Breath of the Wild became my most-anticipated game in a while after games like MGSV and FFXV released, one being the "real" end of a series and the other a decade-long wait. With those out of the way, Zelda has reasserted itself as my game of 2017 I'm most looking forward to simply because of all the advancements and gameplay innovations being put into the Zelda formula; and this is a year with some ...

Seeing as how Zelda is probably my favorite video game franchise of all time, I've always loved the Timeline, especially around the schoolyards in the 90s and early 2000s. It's great to have fans of something unite in a shared interest such as the lore of a series. Of course back in 2000, we thought it was all one timeline, which wasn't technically incorrect until Majora's Mask, but the discussions were fun stuff, bringing up in-game dialogue and hints at the lore.

While I completely understand the pack-in ideas and agree that it's expensive for a random party game, especially since I'm the only person wanting a Switch on Day 1, the amount of critical hatred on this game, and in turn the system, is pretty amusing to me. Games don't always have to make sense, least of all minigames that are meant to show off features of the console.

Why all the hostility for a game that obviously isn't taking itself seriously? If it'...

I'd love GameCube games to finally get the Virtual Console treatment! I always got the impression that technical llimitations were the reason we never got them for Wii U -similar to full VC support for SNES and GBA games on the vanilla 3DS - despite all the rumors and hope for it back in 2012, but this has no doubt been discussed internally at this point.

Being now the most notoriously difficult Nintendo system to play through legit means, re-releasing some of those exc...

"The most boring sentence in the daily newspaper is the last sentence of the editorial, which says 'It is too early to tell whether the new policy will work' or 'The effectiveness of the decision remains to be seen.' If it’s too early to tell, don’t bother us with it, and as for what remains to be seen, everything remains to be seen." -William Zinsser, "On Writing Well"

It's quite amazing how accurate Iwata was about the mobile market having devalued gaming.

A few years ago, Iwata hadn't considered Nintendo getting into the smartphone game for fear that the free-to-play model would be detrimental to their brands. Simple ports of existing content wouldn't make sense for a primarily touch screen-driven experience, since no touch screen would ever be as accurate as dedicated buttons. New games would have to be made fit for the mob...

I'm not quite sure what's worse: an overtly-optimistic click-bait article or the comments that followed it.

I get being optimistic, myself being a Nintendo fan, but this is too much. Nothing's happened yet in this transitional period for the company besides some hype for a mini collectable console and their future hybrid. While I love the idea of the NES Classic Edition and very much want one next to/on top of my original system, I don't think that's cau...

While I won't get into a discussion on art styles, many which often don't change minds, I feel many tend to misrepresent what many rational gamers, Nintendo fans or not, say about how game mechanics are used in particular games.

In this case, Breath of the Wild's various game systems. While it's true most aren't original in the slightest even to Nintendo games, to me it's more about what Nintendo tends to do really well when they put their minds to i...
