Seems every RPG I've played has a sewer level. At least games like Eternal Sonata make sewers look somewhat pretty :P
Ignoring the fact it was a 360 site obviously bashing a Sony handheld, that article was poorly written. Awful.
Wasn't this news announced ages ago? Along with the playable races? Is this article playing catch up or something?
Don't we have enough carbon copy MMORPG's as it is?
I love the Elder Scrolls series. And that's why I would hate to see it as a multiplayer game. Even offline multiplayer or co-op would feel really tacked on. Hell, I hated it in Fable 2/3.
I feel that the Spirit Temple was the best in Ocarina of Time. Great boss, nice use of Bombchu's and the mirror shield, plus it felt really well designed. The music was great too, and I loved how you needed to come back as a child as well, there weren't as many elements in the game which used the whole time travel aspect.
Shadow Temple is a definite second for me though.
I'm glad Vita was delayed, cos there was no way I could afford that on top of everything I need to get in November >_>
Just a shame I will never get any time to play them all :(
To give a different opinion to the mess, the government made cuts to many youth centres, effectively closing them, and with high unemployment and a lack of support for further studying due to EMA cuts, then what exactly are a angry group of teenagers going to do? Especially those caught in the gang culture of London?
Riots like this were sadly predictable.
I was in GAME the other day asking if I could pre-order it in store, but apparently they're only taking orders online, which sucks. Whenever I buy games online, they always appear the day after in the post >_>
Also, I know it's expensive, definitely the most I will ever pay for a game, but I'm a massive Elder Scrolls fan and I know I will get hundreds of hours out of Skyrim. It's a painful purchase, bit for me it's a must have.
Laura Croft?
Anyway, I'm a 'girl gamer' (not a title I particularly identify with) and mostly play single player games or just play with my mates, most of whom are male anyway. I'm not a FPS player really, so I haven't encountered much asshattery. Maybe I'm just lucky? I've certainly never been given any free stuff in MMO's on account of having boobs, which is a damn shame :( I love free stuff >_>
It's a good article ...
A QI quiz game would be quite interesting >_>
There is a good mix of western and Japanese stuff in there I think, but to be honest I wasn't actually thinking of western and Japanese art styles when I was looking at logos! You're probably right though, Japanese art seems to be more detailed and colourful, especially with RPG's obviously.
Western game logos seem to be more thoughtful or conservative in my opinion, but both are pretty good at style and metaphor.
Yeah, me too. The Final Fantasy logos are just art in themselves, to be honest. The logo for FFXIII was probably the most interesting to me due to the nature of the story and what it represents.
I always find them to be really creative and colourful, I hope they continue to use the same style for as long as they keep pumping out new Final Fantasy titles!
Oh Kotaku. Comments there about chest sizes are LOL-worthy too, and one of the reasons why I would never sign up for the place.
But seriously, Shepard is a soldier, as others have stated. I dunno about everyone else, but my female Shepard wears proper damn armour and doesn't mess around. Women own their own sexuality, yes, but not on the battlefield, where a degree of common sense and basic protection is somewhat more important.
Long flowing hair is a no-...
A video game is entertainment and escapism, so sometimes realism adds to that. Otherwise we wouldn't have films and books that strived for realistic settings and characters either.
I know what tests you mean. There was an article on Gamasutra about game mechanics using similar techniques to rats trapped in a skinner box. There are a lot of games which do use mechanics to try and keep players hooked for as long as possible. Whether they are effective or not would require a separate study altogether though.
I think games as a method of escapism can be used to distract people from their own problems. Sometimes this is a good thing, but sometimes, especiall...
I thought that was a really well written article and raised some very interesting points. I know that I, personally speaking, gain a lot of pleasure from video games through escapism and the freedom that games like GTA present.
I've only recently started playing Red Dead Redemption and just being allowed to explore that world and do as I please is empowering. I've spent hours in-game just riding around on my horse for the shear fun of it, although I'm not likely t...
Each console has their own strengths and weaknesses in my mind, but these somewhat complement each other if you're lucky enough to own them all. Nintendo exclusives may 'look' childish, but they're actually pretty fun. I honestly think gaming is too serious these days, so games which actually keep some of the 'childish' and colourful nature are a Godsend.
Yeah, the Dreamcast felt like the golden age of gaming to me! So many unique classics that play great, even today.
Just a shame we haven't seen the best of those within a compilation yet.
Number 3 was definitely my favorite of the bunch, but I do wish they would release IV on PSN or something. I had it on the original PSOne years ago and then lost my copy :(
How about America as an overused setting? ;)
I want Grand Theft Auto Glasgow, dammit.
