We were quite taken by Overstrike when they showed it at the 2011 EA conference, but FUSE doesn't appear to have the same sense of character, which is a shame.
Oh I totally get what you're saying, but we're not a review site, we're primarily an opinion site. Out of over 1600 published articles, only 232 of them are reviews and those who read the site know what we're about. We will always be opinion-driven, and if people would rather not read that then there are tens of thousands of other sites where they can read pure-bred reviews.
We also do review games thoroughly, and if a game needs a playthrough to the end-gam...
It's actually commonplace for reviewers to juxtapose, otherwise those who are unfamiliar with the IP have no basis for comparison. No different to someone saying that they weren't looking forward to "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" because it looks like a cheap immitation of "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert". It did; it really did.
If it's fine to compare like for like when it comes to movies, or for someone ...
It's unethical to decide against publishing a review just because the game is too bad to warrant a positive score. We also don't back off from reviewing games that most people would never be aware of, otherwise almost all of our indie reviews would have gone unpublished.
It's just one of those games which, in all honesty, probably shouldn't have been branded as a "free" game as you can only place one ride before you have to pay for additional conten...
Actually, we don't care about page hits. If we wanted page hits we'd be quote-mining interviews for misleading headlines like many other sites do. We'd not turn down so many press events that we know would get us easy traffic. We'd also be covering a lot more AAA titles than we do but, instead, we try to cover as many lesser-known titles as possible to give smaller developers and publishers more of a voice.
Is that how far we've come... that anyone with...
Actually, Edward actually enjoyed the hell out of Dishonored... for the most part. It won Game Of Show from our Editor-in-Chief at E3, then Game Of Show from Gamescom from Edward but when he came to play the game on a full playthrough rather than the thirty minutes or so that you get from a hands-on dev session, the flaws started to show.
It's a shame though, and you're right, that some people will read the score and automatically assume that it's a BAD game rath...
Does look really promising, doesn't it? One of those games that we didn't know very much about but were pleasantly surprised... actually, a LOT of those at Gamescom this year!
Totally agree. Every time anyone ever asked which game I'd most like to have remade, it was always Enemy Unknown... but when they asked what I would change, the answer was always nothing in terms of gameplay, but bring the graphics up to modern day without losing the feel of the original.
Whenever someone released a spin on it, or a complete reboot, it always fell short and I was never satisfied. It's why I was so hot/cold with the Firaxis one, until finally getting...
Good points. Nice article.
Loving this. It blew us away at E3 this year with the level of detail in the textures and character models. Really looking forward to it.
Thanks danswayuk - we tried using "Disagree" to explain, but even that won't work for us. I'll be surprised if this comment is even submitted, but it's worth a try. We've messaged Whatsupdog to let them know why it's still not tagged, and that we're still constantly trying.
It's a very frustrating situation!
I'm normally against paying that sort of money for game sets, as they're usually just a dodgy looking statue and a few item codes thrown in but, as a total loot-whore, I can't wait for these to be released. Souls will be sold to buy them! ~Mark
I despise when corporations are allowed to get away with crap like this, purely by creating their own loopholes thanks to cleverly-produced advertising. If they knew it wouldn't have it as standard, they should have printed it clearly on the front of the box and any related marketing material.
I really just can't get enough of this game. So addictive, and I'm determined to uncover ALL the items ~M
He's a freak, that's why! I think it started off as one of those "here's a stupid idea" moments and got a little bit out of hand. Makes for interesting reading though, and leaves room for some image manipulation in the article.
Thanks for the comment :)
Hey Colwyn! Would be interested in finding out whether you enjoyed the show or not. Great to see events branching out to smaller areas of the country rather than the large metropolitan areas :)
Yeah, it's a point 'n' click but the controls have been adapted to suit each different console. Probably in the same way as Gray Matter was, so it was easy enough to handle for console users.
We saw the new Tomb Raider at E3 and were really quite surprised at how little gameplay was involved in the scenes shown during the presentation. Aside from the segment where the player had to work out a puzzle using various scene elements, the rest was mostly twiddling the stick or pushing a button at a certain point.
Later in the year - October, I believe - we had a more in-depth presentation and it was exactly the same sort of button pressing that was going on at E3. I d...
Yeah, the one currently being developed by 2K Marin is very much a shooter and only has nods to the original series. We saw it at E3 last year and it looked good in terms of a shooter, but to an X-COM fan it was like they had ignored everything about the original games so it wasn't something that I, personally, was looking forward to.
This version from Firaxis is very much the original game, brought more up to date in terms of visuals and handling, and with a couple of e...
Looks like a pretty interesting game, but it's a shame that the majority of gamers (I imagine, anyway) won't see past the fact that it's a point-and-click or the fact that it doesn't have cutting-edge graphics.
