I agree with you, but I think introducing new consoles will be very expensive for all the players in the industry ( developers- manufacturers- customers) and the leap won't be big enough to justify the extra expenses.
In my humble opinion I think we haven't reach the point where PC completely destroy consoles this gen, and I think consoles can hold their own against the PC, so they deserve a little more life time ( PS3 is $50 cheaper than PS2 launch after 5 years can ...
do we need next gen ? I noticed that some devs these days are reaching the true potential of PS3/360, that helps eliminate the differences between multiplats ( games looks-plays the same) as will as tapping the true potential of PS3( Uncharted 3) or 360 ( Gears 3).
So, next xbox will be a fixed spcs PC ?
exclusives is what define a system, what is the point of owning more than one system if you can play all games( experiences) in one system ?
What is Nintendo console without Mario or Zelda ?
What is Xbox without Halo and Gears ?

I believe that Vita can output graphics on par with 360/PS3 considering the smaller screen but using this Anime game for comparison is not good indication of Vita capabilities, because I think this art style can be done on PS2, it is not GPU hungry.
I have seen Uncharted on Vita and I was convinced that Vita is a monster of a handheld.
looking at the PS2 gives me chills, it is the best console design I have ever seen.
