yeah, and you can only transfer your profile (stats/unlocks) one time. So once you go BF4 on PS4, there is no going back to PS3 anyway...at least for multiplayer and your profile.
You still need the PS3 disc if you are upgrading the games to PS4. Therefore you will still have to switch discs to play the digital game.
For these upgradeable options at least.

Anytime a Vita game comes to Plus I click download in the PSN store, but don't always fully download it. Once you click download, that game will go to your download list.
After it is in your download list, it will stay there forever. You can then just download the game when you have space without having to keep it stored on your PS3.
I don't know if that helps you, but it will guarantee you will get the game in your download list even if you don'...
yes, I bought a CoD Vita bundle during last years Black Friday and still to this day have not bought a single Vita title because of Plus. I feel kinda guilty.
I have a 32GB card and it is almost full because of all the content from Plus. Buy a Vita, get a Plus subscription and you will have games to play for awhile. Definitely enough time to save for a new Vita game of your choosing.
Sony adding Vita to Plus is what actually got me to get a Vita in the firs...
