Several tech websites says the ram has been upgraded to 12gb.
The difference between between the two consoles are the xbox one is a custom full HSA and Ps4 isn't.
Xbox one has the HSA CPU AMD Kaveri and ps4 has the non HSA AMD Kabini. Thekaveri has the better cores for multi threading.

Every console manufacturer takes a loss in the first three years, however due to Sony past finaL situation the last few years they just weren't in a position to take a loss with the PS4. In a statement from Sony several months ago they weren't going to sell the ps4 at a loss.
