If Square Enix is worried about the PS3, what do you think Sony's management is doing? They are crapping their britches.
I find myself playing a game thru again just to get them. I have some friends that have a contest to see who can get the most. They definately add another dimension to gaming. Microsoft was brilliant when they created them.
Looks like Sony finally got the message. Help out the game builders, and they can make better games.
He really only went into why it is bad for Sony, and from his perspective, that is everybody.
Competition gives us:
-lower prices for players
-free movies with purchase
Never got free movies with dvd.
I know at least 4 former PS2 owners that now have the XBOX360. Why? So we can game together. There are at least 20 guys up here at work that have the 360. No one has the PS3, or maybe they won't admit it.
The author blindly suggests that the old PS2ers will buy the PS3, doesn't look like that is happening.
Bottom line, no one likes to play old generation games in a next generation machines, unless they don't have any good next gen titles on it.(PS3)
Not to be argumentative but the price drop was over about a 4 year time period due to the decreasing costs of manufactoring. There was also a significant reason to switch to DVD, not having to rewind tapes and better quality. There is not a huge compelling reason now. The movies still sell at about $25-35. The prices will come down either way, but with competition they will come down much faster.
Talk about a screw job.
I am waiting on the print cartridges to get to ...
If there had only been blueray or HD-DVD for that matter, then the players would still be $1,000 and there would be no incentive to drop the price. We all win, the article even talks about the money the corporations will not earn. Why, because they are having to compete for the market. Goooo Capitalism!!!
That has been one of my biggest complaints against my psp. Well also that it does not have 2 thumb buttons.
The current war has brought prices from $800 down to $300 in one year. If there was only Blue Ray, you can bet the prices might be $750.
What this means in the end? Who knows. BlueRay and HD DVD will probably peacefully coexist like DVD+R & DVD-R.
This Sega Fanboy ended up an XBOX 360 fanboy. I got my sega from the money from my marriage. Helped me get thru it. Wish I had never sold it. When Sonic came out on Xbox Live, it was true ecstasy.
I played for a while before I logged into Xbox Live, it prompted for the update, it ran like crap afterwards. There were more problems than framerate, I had it freeze momentarily a few times.
This format war has brought the cost of a player from $1000 to $250 in one year. If we only had blue-ray, then I am sure it would still be $800. Competition is good for all. I just picked up the HD-DVD add on for the 360 because my prediction is that both formats will tie, kinda like DVD+R & DVD-R.
Too bad it is only a joke. Maybe 2008 will be kinder to the PS3 fans.
At least in American football they can take a hit. All professional soccer players fall at the slightest sneeze and then cry about it to an official. Makes a real man want to puke. Soccer is so Europe.
I bet some high up lawyer saw something questionable considering the new revelations of Manhunt 2. They are probably taking out a few items and replacing them with nice pink ponies.
For your information, my xbox lasted 15 months before it got fried. I can assure you that I worked it over with over 80 glorious games. I will be getting a refund soon, so all is good.
That being said, the main point should be, it is better to hold on to a great game than to bet on the unknown.
You might remember this, a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.
You heard Jack say that Rock Star wanted to go to the 360 and they respected their opinion. I don't blame them. They wanted to go to a system that takes half the time to program for with even better graphics then the PS3.
Looks like Rock Star will doom the new IP with the lowest console with the fewest sales.
Tsk tsk
This game must be awesome.... It is so far off they can not even figure out a name for it. The PS3 will rock in 2011 when it finally comes out, that is if the programmers have discovered how to program for the PS3 by then.
It is obvious that momentum does not change easily and I don't see him taking that into consideration as much as he should have. As such I see Wii in 1st, Xbox 2nd and PS3 3rd.
It is hard to get to catch up with a large install base as Sony will find out. Just like last gen, xbox = superior but not as many titles and could not catch the PS2.
