Still, I don't get what the big deal is about the game's admittedly intentional, trashy humor. Duke Nukem does the EXACT same thing, but takes it to an even more offensive (sexist much?) and disgusting level. Yet we never hear about why Duke Nukem's "playground mentality"...

Yes. Yes you should. At the very least, try Ocarina of Time, though I prefer Wind Waker myself and Twilight Princess is good too. If you think you'll be put off by the comparatively bad graphics (they don't bother me but I grew up on Zelda too), you can try the 3D remake on 3DS. Egypt! That would be so exciting. And extremely relevant, too =o I agree with others that the French Revolution would be cool, but the last two games have already taken place in Europe. It's time to take the series to an entirely different place, imo.
I'll add, however, that I hope the use of guns would be minimal if they were to take things to a modern setting.
