Sony: Graphical dominance over the much weaker Xbox 360, massive first party exclusive developer array, and strong support in all key console regions was the key to making the PS3 sell at the same rate as the top selling console in history, the PS2.

PS2 14 years * 11 mil/yr ~160 million
PS3 7 years * 11 mil/yr ~78 million

Even if the PS3 has isn't on the market for the full 7 more years the PS2 was the PS3 will be Sony's third 100+ million sel...

How can anyone be so delusional?

The PS2 sold 160 million over 14 years.
The PS3 has sold 78 million over 7 years and it still has 5-7 years of sales to go.

PS2: 160/14 years == 11.4 million consoles a year
PS3: 78/7 years == 11.14 million consoles a year

And that is for a system that has been double the price of the PS2. Even more amazing is the PS3 still hasn't hit the all important 199 price worldwide yet where the PS2 ...

"Both console will well a lot more than current ones without a doubt."

Not a chance. The PS3 will obviously sell well and dominate next gen. The next Xbox won't come close to the Xbox 360's installed base.

The PS3 still hasn't had the all important price drop to $199 worldwide. That is the price the PS2 went on to sell some 90 million more consoles when it was already at 70 million worldwide.

There are still 5-7 years of...

What is inexplicable about Microsoft is how they still think they are going to turn the Xbox into some sort of Wii type mass market success.

They sat around while Sony and Nintendo each continued to develop and refine their motion controls and then finally jumped on the motion control bandwagon years after Sony and Nintendo. They bought technology from a company that made an Eye Toy clone who had unsuccessfully tried to sell their tech to both Apple and Nintendo. Neither of w...

"Patchter said the Playstation 4 will sell 85-95 million units in ITS LIFE TIME."

Another inane statement coming from Pachter.

The PS3 is still 300 dollars. Over the next 3-5 years the PS3 will continue to get price drops and be sold in parts of the world where it was too expensive up to this point.

The PS2 didn't hit its explosive growth until it dropped to down from 300 dollars to 199 after which it went on to sell some 90 mil...

"Thier was nothing diffrent about the games that we havent see before"

Take the fanboy goggles off...

The PS3 destroyed the wimpy Xbox 360 this gen. The wimpy Xbox 360 got beaten so badly this gen its fanboys had to resort to desperately scanning crappy multiplatform titles frantically looking for something to brag about.

No console in history has every gotten beat like the Xbox 360 did this gen in graphics.

The 'g' just stands for 'graphics'...

Gotta love the 'PC gamers' trying to pretend to be graphics hardware experts.

"PCs don't need GDDR5 ram for the entire system. It would actually be detrimental to system performance due to it's high latency."

> why the PS3's graphics looked so far, far beyond anything the Xbox 360

It really is amazing that something so obvious about console hardware performance, memory speed, is unable to be grasped by Microsoft.

Console engine programming is almost entirely based off of stream style processing where latency is of no consequence. Console engineers know how to build their engines in such a manner that the next data chunk is constantly being fetched while the...
