Sometimes getting rid of something is less about offense and more about not perpetuating a potential hate symbol. You seem to see everyone who wants this stuff removed as fragile little snowflakes, yet you are the ones throwing up their arms in protest and whining about it when the dev team probably looked at it and went "yeeeeeeah now this shit is being used by racist assholes, lets get that out of here." They probably weren't "triggered" like you all seem to imagine...
The one thing I will say in the defense of developers towards this statement, keeping in mind I agree the TTK changes were a bad idea, is that players are often "wrong." I have a few friends in development and a common thread could be shortly described as "the players don't know what they want until you give it to them." That's part of why weird decisions are made all the time, plus the problem of compromise within team itself. Sometimes the weirdest ideas improve ...
I'm always torn on how much "different" I want in a games' sequel. I don't always want a completely different experience, but if it's too close to what came before it then I have a "been there, done that" problem on my hands. I want games to iterate on themselves to become better, and it sounds like this one may have been in the oven a little too long for what they changed to really be enough for me. Not to mention it looks like the writing doubled down a b...
I've yet to get my hands on it myself, but I'm getting the impression that this game is a bit stuck in it's ways in a way that some people may love, but for others is a bummer. Not quite sure if it was quite a home run. I still look forward to playing it eventually.
MAG was one of the very few games trying to do scale like it did, but I think it missed the mark. Wish it could have had a sequel though as they may have been able to iterate on it to create something pretty neat.
I mean... I played it, and it wasn't very good. Neat ideas in there, but ultimately felt half baked.
They release new tetris games in one form or another all the time. It's still one of the most enduring puzzle games of all time. Are you trolling?
That said, I think your main point does still stand. A lot of people feel the genre is just stuck in time. I kind of disagree, as I've still enjoyed car combat games, but I guess I'm not everyone.
Because the world is a strange and confusing place.
I always feel like i'm in the minority saying this, but I thought the last game was so close to something awesome. I liked the multiplayer for the last one quite a lot. Sadly, it have massive connection error issues which made it damn near impossible to play pretty much the entirety of it's run, so getting into a game was super hard. The single player lacked an abundance of characters, but I appreciate what they tried to do, even if it didn't work that well.
I was personally pleasantly surprised by it. I think the mode is pretty good, but it suffers from it's late release and being inside of a game that isn't exactly dominating the market right now.
Well, from what I played the moment to moment in that game of running and gunning was pretty enjoyable. Most of the problems came from progression and micro transactions for me, so I think there is some validity to his statement. That said, simply calling them missteps is a bit underwhelming to how much it tarnished the games design and reception.
I'm still hesitant to give them money for it, but I'm glad to have been hearing that the game is in a much better state than before. I still have issues with some of the games overall design though. Maybe if it goes on sale again I'll give it a shot.
I also thought premium was one of the better season pass options out there. Sadly it also had the effect of splitting the community, and sometimes it can be hard to find servers running all of the maps (BF1 this was particularly weird to find, but maybe it's just the way the interface was setup).
That said, as much as I do really like BFV, their map variety of Quality is probably my biggest gripe.
I'm with you Saraphim. EA has had it's gems and periods of of solid games, but sadly a lot of the times those games just don't pan out very well. Great example is Mirrors Edge. The game simply didn't do that well. Even among people I know who like more unique experiences it had a mixed reception. Sadly, the more interesting games often are not as safe a bet for making gobs of money. That's why we have had a new COD release every year for over a decade. Sure, they change th...
There was a pretty in depth Kotaku article by Schrier which went into that games history. Honestly it sounds like the development was a mess from top to bottom for a lot of reasons. Some of them EA's fault, some of them issues within the studio itself. In the end, as much as it sucks, it really did sound like putting a bullet it in was maybe the right thing to do.
Also, correct if I'm wrong, but Hennig was a writer wasn't she? I don't think she every quite f...
But why does Fortnite need to die? This just feels like the "Halo Killer" narrative from 15 years ago. Fortnite doesn't need to "die," and it's popularity will pass eventually. In the meantime, I really enjoy Apex. I don't want it to become the same kind of inescapable monster that Fortnite is.
Honestly, I don't even notice the female player charcters when I'm actually playing the game. I think nits such a minor detail in the grand scheme of what is otherwise a really awesome game. That and you should probably just learn to care about it less. It's just a video game, and a damn fun one at that.
I liked the shorter TTK. Going back to other games with longer TTK's after how much time I put into the beta felt a bit weird. To each his own, I guess.
I just hope I don't end of flip flopping on the game after all is said and done with whatever changes they make.
I mean, the words that thing censored were super weird. This actually makes more sense to me than an actual human being saying "we need to ban the word "White Man!""
So the point I'm trying to make is less about "offending people" and more about not perpetuating something that is being used by a hate group as a symbol.
You are all free to disagree, as I figured folks would as made obvious by the way I closed my last comment. Ultimately we disagree on it being taken down, but I think people often see something being removed for it being problematic as folks being triggered and offended. I argue these are not the same thing,...
