Gold has always been around 50% of the overall Xbox Live number. It was quoted in 2010 at 12 million before Slim and Kinect and the 360 had its best holiday ever and certain people are still quoting the number even bought bough MS keep saying that there has been growth every single year.
Either way Xbox live has been far from a mistake. In fact it's been the 360s killer app the entire gen.

Why would 'Better with Kinect' refrain you from buying huge games like Mass Effect 3 or the upcoming 'Dead Space 3'..when it's 100% optional.
Loved the voice commands for ME3..but didn't use them all the time. It never hurt the experience either way.
You can't even LOAD games that must have Kinect without the 360 detecting one, but you can play ANY game that is optional without one with a controller...

Currently #13...the online was a blast. It was like do whatever you wanted in your own world, especially with friends.
