@DragonKnight
LOL... I hope you could tell that my comment was highly sarcastic.

Listen just because a game "literally" is developed in Japan, does not mean it can not be "western" in design.

You can call it a JRPG and I will call it a JRPG that is a WPRG in disguise.

So if a bunch of non Japanese people go to Japan and make a western-style RPG, but release it first in Japan does that make it a JRPG? It's developed and released in Japan.

I'll give it to this first Valkyria and while Persona is amazing...it came out in 2008. Birth by Sleep and Pokemon are just iterations of their predecessors. Demon's Souls I'd argue is actually more western in design.

Believe me I love JRPGs (I worked for a company who's released their fair share) and if you read the article its not about sending them to their grave.

But when are they going to do well here? JPRGs need to sell well here for us non-Japanese speaking people to get a chance to play them. And when was the last creative/innovative JRPG (besides TWEWY)?

The original Final Fantasy was heavily inspired by D & D and most Japanese RPG's were inspired by Final Fantasy as well as Dragon Quest.

Form the 1up article "30 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About Final Fantasy"

"Final Fantasy might as well have called itself "Dungeon...

I'll give it to Pokemon and FF, but the others only move units in Japan. And who knows how long FF will continue to thrive with the way the last one took a beating from the games press.

The Witcher was great. Haven't had a chance to play part 2 yet. Though the reason they are probably so good stems from the notion that the part of Europe they are developed in culturally is behind the United States by 10 years (A time when Ultima and Baldur's Gate reigned supreme here). Just a thought for discussion...

I agree... but look at all those pleases. Those games just aren't selling anymore. Kids just want to shoot things, they don't want compelling narative.

It will be sad day when RPG's have been so homogenized that they can't be even called RPG's anymore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the return of the JRPG, but I'm not complaining quite yet on what the west is producing.

There are a few and I am excited for them, but compared to the number of Western RPGs, they are starting to look like they are heading the way of the Dodo. I love Japanese game design, but sales just haven't been backing it up.

I'm stoked for the GB classics. I always had the hardest time seeing games on the original during car trips as a kid and thus never finished many games.

I want to "catch them all"... Maybe there will be an update later for it.

Stoked it's free for 30 days. Now if I only had a 3DS

Unfortunately N4G doesn't convey GameXplains rating system. 1 out of 5 doesn't really equal 20%. They also rate multiplayer separately which in Brinks case earned it a 2 out of 5 stars.

5 Stars = Awesome
4 Stars = Great
3 Stars = Good
2 Stars = Meh
1 Star = Terrible

From their about page:
"Remember, this system is intended to represent how much we enjoyed playing each game. Because of this, you'll never...

It's essentially what EGM gave the game.

His games need to evolve. Though I am okay with no voice acting after what happened with Metroid.

Zelda music is always topnotch and this just makes it that much sweeter.

Both characters can switch between melee and archery. The girl is also better with magic which helps in her diversity. But yeah seems to definitely be mainly cover support.

I'm still trudging through the first one, but when/if I finish it I can't wait to get my hands all over this.

That's been my thought exactly so far.
