Think its just an extension of the whole Switch vs Steam Deck debate. It's like if you want a Steam Deck over a Switch than why not just get a PC. Which I am pretty sure most people who want the steam deck already have a Switch and a PC. Think the better comparison is laptop vs steam deck.
Until prices of GPUs drop a little more than price can be a factor with steam deck vs PC but then if price was a huge issue then might as well go with switch, unless you're going to use a switch emulator.
If a $1500 laptop is an option vs a $500 handheld then go with the laptop. If price and portability are factors for you then go with the handheld.

Just so people know, this Kotaku article ignores 90% of the things she said. She said quite a bit more to be criticized over. One of the more notable things she said which I am sure got her in more hot water was that "LBGT is a mental illness". I think firing people over stupid shit they say is stupid but let's not ignore it was far more than being against short men.
Till RetroArch adds a switch emulator to play switch games over steam. That'd be too funny to happen tho.

Cause the Steam Deck has the ability to sell at a loss cause people will use it to buy games from the Steam platform which is how Valve will make its money back. Only someone like Epic Games could rival Steam on a PC handheld in price cause of this.
